Buddhist tea from Zhejiang does not refer to a single standardized tea name, but rather a group of traditional green teas that were historically cultivated or maintained in Buddhist monasteries in Zhejiang province. These teas often originated in remote mountain regions, where monks cultivated tea plants and greatly simplified and refined the processing.
Typical of these teas is a very clear, calm aroma that is strongly focused on naturalness and purity. The processing usually remains minimalist to preserve the original freshness of the spring buds. This results in delicate, light green teas without pronounced roasted notes.
In taste, they are soft, sometimes slightly sweet, and very balanced, with a quiet, almost meditative characteristic. The cup is bright and clear, often with a delicate green shimmer.
