“Buddhist Tea” from Zhejiang does not refer to a single standardised tea, but rather to a group of traditional green teas historically cultivated or cared for in Buddhist monasteries throughout the province. These teas often originated in remote mountain regions, where monks cultivated tea plants and developed simple yet refined approaches to processing.

A defining characteristic is their exceptionally clear and tranquil aroma, with an emphasis on natural freshness and purity. The processing is generally kept minimal in order to preserve the delicate character of the young spring shoots, resulting in fine, light green teas without pronounced roasted notes.

On the palate, these teas are soft, gently sweet and beautifully balanced, with a quiet, almost meditative character. The infusion is bright and clear, often revealing a delicate green shimmer.
